Obituary

William James Moore

November 3, 1921 – November 14, 2004

Bill ended his long struggle with emphesema and left his earthly body behind; at peace with himself and his maker.

Born in Canandaigua, New York to Ward William Moore and Ruth Mary Freer Moore.

Bill is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marilyn Veronica Burns Moore; children William Scott Moore, Kathryn Brooks Moore, and John Edward Moore; and by his sister Virginia Ethel Book. His grandchildren include Alden Kai Moore, Nathaniel Whitaker, Joseph and M. Nicole Moore, and Emily Maesar, William Moore, Gary Moore, and Wesley Moore.

Bill graduated from Cornell University in 1943 with a degree in electrical engineering and soon served his country as a civilian attached to the US Navy installing and maintaining radar systems in US submarines throughout World War II and later testing communications systems during the Bikini Atoll A-bomb tests. Bill’s long career with Raytheon, Phillips Norelco, Collins Radio, and Rockwell International accompanied the emerging semiconductor and microwave telecommunications industries. His early career work allowed him to travel extensively in Europe, the Middle East, India and Nepal, and Australia befriending many with his keen intellect, methodical problem solving, youthful enthusiasm, and quick wit. In turn, these experiences shaped his world perspective, tantalized his curiosity of global culture, and developed his culinary palette.

Some of Bill’s fondest memories include the family cottage on Wellesly Island in the Thousand Islands of the St. Lawrence Waterway. Swimming and fishing for northern pike, black bass, and perch were his favorite pastimes there. His favorite hobbies included ham radio, sailing, photography, painting, and collecting and restoring early American furniture.

We will all miss him dearly.

A graveside service will be held at Abbey View Memorial Park in Brier, Washington on Saturday, November 20, 2004 at 3 pm.
