Winifred Adeline (Addie) Scidmore
Addie Scidmore was born March 23, 1924 in Edinburgh, ND to Mary Lucile Howard and William Alexander Schoonover, and passed away April 14th, 2015, in Seattle, Washington. Addie grew up in Edinburg and Drayton, and attended St. Michael’s Hospital School of Nursing in Grand Forks after high school. While working as an RN, She met the love of her life, Don L. Scidmore. Addie and Don were married Sept. 2, 1946 in Drayton, ND. Following their marriage, Addie and Don lived in Colorado, Iowa, New Mexico, Maryland, and California, finally settling in West Seattle in 1955.
Addie had numerous interests: writing poetry, painting, needle art, sewing, music, cooking, gardening, all animals, bowling, and bridge, just to name a few. She was a loving mother to her family, and active in Tibbetts United Methodist Church, Arbor Heights PTA, Camp Fire, Boy Scouts, League of Women Voters and The Mountaineers. Addie was a supporter of many organizations such as The Humane Society, Audubon, the Nature Conservancy, The Leukemia Society, The Seattle Public Library, The Salvation Army, Union Gospel Mission, The American Heart Association, The Puget Sound Blood Center, and Paralyzed Veterans of America. Addie was also co-owner in the Mitered Corner LLC, along with her husband and daughter.
Addie is joining her husband, Don, her sons, Scott and Daryl, her family and many friends already in Heaven. Addie is survived by her daughter, Terry Scidmore (Kelly Finn), her cat, Ebony, her cousins “the Kertz clan”, and many cherished relatives, friends, and neighbors.
Please join us for a memorial service Sunday, May 17th, at 2:00 PM, at Tibbetts United Methodist Church, 3940 41st Ave. SW, in West Seattle.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Addie’s name to your favorite cause, or one of hers.
