Yvonne "Gigi" Sonsearey Phillips

October 1, 1975 - December 18, 2021

Obituary

Yvonne Sonsearey Phillips was born in Anchorage, Alaska to Le Thi Lamson, her second child and only daughter.  She grew up with her mother and brother, in Alaska.  Identified early as gifted, Yvonne became a boarding student at prestigious Kylemore Abbey School for girls in Ireland.  She was accomplished in writing, calligraphy, painting, singing, piano and guitar.  Her facility with foreign languages was accelerated by frequent family trips to France, Italy, and Switzerland.  Yvonne attended Surval Montreux, an international all girl boarding finishing school.

Yvonne approached all of life’s subjects with great joy and humor. She sang as passionately in the Mass choir as she did in the evening impromptu rock-sing-alongs with the other girls.  She excelled in sports and loved raucous competition in rugby, soccer, and karate.   She was also a voracious reader, and did not distinguish between high and low brow content, though she was particularly fond of Somerset Maugham.  Yvonne, returned from her boarding schools to Seattle’s Franklin High School, where she participated in several theatrical productions.

Yvonne furthered her studies at the prestigious Gemological Institute of America, in Carlsbad, CA. Upon graduation, she focused on jewelry design, as well as painting, many of which were displayed at Seattle and Tacoma art happenings. In addition, she cultivated her local friendships, which she cared for as much as her art work. Humanity and connection were of great importance to her.  Yvonne was the most loyal and steadfast friend.

At 26, Yvonne became a mother to her only son, Holden.  She dedicated herself to Holden from the start, and in motherhood, a new chapter in her life began.  Yvonne found her highest calling and greatest joy in motherhood, which she captured in self-portraits and portraits of her son.

Yvonne is survived by her son, Holden, her brother, Mark, her mother, Le Thi Lamson, her aunt Thu ha Le, other family located in CA and abroad.

Yvonne “Gigi” Sonseary Phillips:  you will leave a great void in the hearts of many.  We all were privileged to have walked with you awhile.  Thank you for all you shared with us.
