Obituary
Zenaida “Nini” Floresca Rosete passed away on January 20, 2015, in Seattle, at the age of 66.
Born on March 15, 1948, in Tondo, Manila, Philippines, Nini immigrated to the United States as a young teenager to join her mother, Emma, and adoptive father, Leandro Floresca. She quickly adapted to her new home in Seattle’s diverse Central District in the early 1960s. Nini graduated from Garfield High School and attended Seattle Central Community College where she studied in the School of Apparel and Design and Development. In 1968, she married and moved to south Seattle’s Rainier Beach neighborhood, where she raised her three children.
Nini was a hard worker with a loyal, fierce spirit, who made many sacrifices for her family, often working two jobs at a time. Her career experiences included serving as Manager of her family-owned Orient-Pacific Travel agency, Sales Representative for Macy’s Fine Jewelry, and finally, as a Certified Nursing Assistant for both the Food Service and Home Health Care units of Swedish Medical Center. Nini was a proud member of the Service Employees International Union (Local 775 and 1199), where she helped many of her fellow union members to become aware of their rights and benefits. After she retired in 2012, she helped raise her three grandchildren as a resident of Renton, Washington.
Nini loved to travel, sew, and cook. She will always be remembered for her generous fashion sense and as one of her family’s talented creators of traditional Filipino dishes and desserts.
Nini was preceded in death by her mother, Emma Lawsin; father, Leandro Floresca; and stepfather, Vincent A. Lawsin. She is survived by her three sons: Marvin, Thomas, Jason (and Leilani Diaz) Rosete; three grandsons: Teriel, Jaden, and Kai; four siblings: Carmelita (and Jerry Maurice) Bridges, Vincent Lawsin (and Joseph Mahony), Emily Lawsin (and Scott Kurashige), and Ramon Lawsin; three nephews: Leandro, Isaiah, and Maxwell; and two nieces, Tula and Korido; plus numerous relatives from the Español, Porcincula, and Ordonia clans.

I am at a lost for words, Zenaida was such a fun and loving person, always having a position word to share. Zenaida and I went to elementary, junior high and Garfield High. She was fashionable in school that carried over to adulthood. We then reconnected at Macy’s selling Fine Jewelry. I remember her always sporting the lasts Coach Watch. Just when we reach our golden years, she starts her rest until Judgment Day, Rest my friend, and may we meet again.
Will always remember Nini’s quick wit and love of family – gone from this earth too soon.
