Obituary
Rudolph (Rudy) Mayer
Born June 7, 1927 in Ballard to Johanna and Ludwig Mayer; recent immigrants from Germany, and died December 4, 2016 in Burien, WA.
Preceded in death by his parents.
Leaves his wife Jean of 66 years, three children, Kathryn (Peter) of Ballard, Karl (Debra) of Burien, and Marie (Norm) of Salmon, Idaho, and six grandchildren. He was eagerly looking forward to the birth of his first great-grandchild in late December.
Rudy served in the Navy at the end of WWII. After returning home, he met and married Jean in April 1950.
A true craftsman, he worked with his father from early years in the family business, Riverton Heights Cabinet Shop, eventually taking over the ownership and management from his dad. Some of the employees worked at the shop their entire careers, becoming like family. As Rudy did, all three children helped at the shop from an early age.
Rudy and Jean enjoyed traveling together, both abroad and then in their motor home all around the USA. He loved skiing, having started early, and skied until he was 80 years old.
There were many friends made and happy times in square dancing over the years. He was an enthusiastic gardener. Not a musician himself he enjoyed marching band music, especially John Phillips Sousa, and German “oom-pah” bands per his German heritage.
Services Friday, December 9th at 11:00 AM at St Francis of Assisi Church, Burien, reception to follow. Memorials to St Francis of Assisi,
